Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
Every election cycle people become passionate about their “side”. This includes brothers and sisters in Christ. Each side posts inflammatory things just to get a rise out of someone. Telling each other that their side is right. They call each other names because they think one thing or the other and can’t believe that someone could think like this or that. They post memes with hateful undertones or just blatantly hateful. Yes this includes Christians.
God has created us all in His image, therefore we can not say praise God and then say “to hell with” His created being all in the same breath. I am dumbfounded by the things I see Christian people post on Facebook. Please stop posting hate in the name of Jesus. Poking fun at someone’s beliefs or passions isn’t funny, it’s hateful. We are not Republicans or Democrats, we are children of Christ. As such we have been given a command to love others as ourselves. Every time we post that meme to show how dumb the other side is, it’s not showing love.
Paul tells us not to conform to the ways of this world. We are supposed to be set apart from the rest of the craziness. God has put His light in us to shine in the world. We are supposed to be examples that make people want to know God, not despise Him or any one associated with Him.
We seem to have forgotten that our words and actions are supposed to be used to build up others not tear them down. We can advocate for those things that we are passionate about without all the hateful memes and rhetoric. Instead of calling someone else out for their beliefs, get involved with the organizations that support your passion. Financially support it. Praise it on Facebook.
If we as Christians were half as passionate about Jesus Christ as we are about whether or not we were right and that the other side are idiots, this world would be in a much better place. As Christians, we should pray that when we meet Jesus face to face and He opens the book of life and he looks at our social media posts that we don’t have a Face “Book of hate” page to review.
