Seize today before it becomes tomorrow!

PSALM 90

For all our days pass away under your wrath;
    we bring our years to an end like a sigh.
10 The years of our life are seventy,
    or even by reason of strength eighty;
yet their span[c] is but toil and trouble;
    they are soon gone, and we fly away.
11 Who considers the power of your anger,
    and your wrath according to the fear of you?

12 So teach us to number our days
    that we may get a heart of wisdom.

The Psalmist reminds us that our days are numbered and if we aren’t intentional about how we spend them, they may end without realizing the experiences and joy God has planned for us.

Life has a way of changing in the blink of an eye, it moves so fast sometimes we feel unable to keep up. Yet, we live as though we have all the time in the world. It’s always, “I will start taking care of myself tomorrow.” or “Tomorrow is another day.”, but the truth is tomorrow comes and goes and we find ourselves just another day older and further behind. Before we know it we are 56 years old with a list of  “I wish I would of’s”.

At least, that is where I find myself. At the top of my list is, “I wish I would have finished college.”. I started college in my 20’s and life quickly got in the way; I had to live on my own @ 22 which meant I had to work a lot of hours, I was married a few years later and had children shortly after that. Now I am: 56 years old, married for 32 years, had 2 careers, my oldest child will be 30 this year and just graduated with her P.H.D., while my son is about to finish his bachelors degree.  I have realized after my son graduates from college in the fall this year, I will be the only person in my family without a degree.

Growing up, school was never an emphasis in our family. None of the adults in my family went to college. My brother was the first to get a college degree. Both of his and my children are in college or graduating college, effectively changing the dynamics our family history in one generation.

I believe God is now calling me to get an associates in Biblical Studies at Moody Bible institute starting in the fall 2024. This wasn’t an easy decision to come to. In fact it is one of the scariest things I have ever committed myself to. At 56 I’m not sure if my brain still works, but I believe God equips us for what he calls us.
